The Navy, STEM to stern

By Flora Richards Gustafson on November 26, 2013
Like all branches of the military, the Navy is actively pursuing recruits with STEM training and interest, offering a STEM career tool online at http://www.navy.com/stem/career-tool.html, and a Facebook page dedicated to STEM as well, www.facebook.com/UsNavyStem.

A recent crowning achievement for the integration of STEM fields in a single example is the commissioning in September of the $2 billion U.S.S. Minnesota, complete with touch screens in its control suite.

“Designed as an advanced stealth multi-mission nuclear-powered boat,” the Minnesota can “conduct missions including anti-submarine, anti-surface ship, strike, special operation forces, irregular and mine warfare, as well as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions,” according to Naval-Technology.com.
